The Alcoa Police Department seeks information on a a stabbing that took place Thursday behind the New Midland Plaza.
Police responded to a call at 4:29 p.m. after New Midland Self Storage employees called dispatchers after a man was stabbed several times in the neck in a parking lot behind the facility.
The confrontation appeared to be an isolated incident and not a random attack, according to Alcoa Police Sgt. Kris Sanders, who added that detectives think the men know each other. Storage employees attempted to assist the victim, including a manager who reportedly arrived with a self defense weapon to stop the confrontation.
The victim, whose identity and condition weren’t released Friday, was taken for treatment by Rural/Metro Ambulance Services to the University of Tennessee Medical Center.
Alcoa and Maryville Police officers and Blount County Sheriff’s deputies scoured a wooded area behind the shopping center Thursday with canines.
Residents in surrounding neighborhoods also received automated alerts as the search centered around Pacific Avenue.
