Two sex offenders from outside of Tennessee and living in Maryville were taken into custody Wednesday after failing to register as sex offenders.
Johnny Lynn Watts, 37, of White Avenue, Maryville, and Jacob Samuell Simmons, 34, of Grandview Drive, Maryville, were charged with violating the sex offender registry.
Watts did not register as a sex offender in the state and was living in an apartment within 300 feet of Maryville High School. Simmons also did not register as a sex offender when he moved to Tennessee, Blount County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Marian O’Briant said.
She said that Watts absconded from Kentucky in 2018 and was discovered by a Blount County Sheriff’s Office sex offender registry investigator.
Watts was booked into the Blount County Correctional Facility on bonds totaling $40,000. His hearing in Blount County General Sessions Court is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Feb. 13.
Simmons is being held in the Blount County Jail on $20,000 bond. His hearing in Blount County General Sessions Court is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Feb. 13.
