The Blount County Democratic Party (BCDP) will present Marjorie Stewart with the Dorothy Mitchell-Kincaid Community Impact Award at its annual dinner Saturday, Nov. 16, at Green Meadow Country Club.
Before her passing in August, Mitchell-Kincaid said she wanted the award named in her honor to be given to Stewart in recognition for her lifelong commitment to education, equality, diversity and the well-being of all, the BCDP said Tuesday in a news release.
Stewart serves on the board of the Dorothy Mitchell-Kincaid Beloved Community Outreach Foundation, an organization focused on helping those with chronic illnesses by assisting them with rent, utilities, gas for transportation and food.
At Saturday’s annual dinner, BCDP also will recognize party leaders for outstanding service and community advocacy, as well as present the first-ever Democracy Award and name the 2019 Democrat of the Year. Oliver “Buzz” Thomas will serve as master of ceremonies, the Rev. Harold Middlebrook will deliver the keynote address.
