Dear Editor:

For some unknown reason, the city of Maryville decided to let fireworks be sold and used inside the city limits. We now are besieged with ugly white pop-up tents all over town for the purpose of selling these items.

We have been subjected to the noise of fireworks in our neighborhood since June 17. They go on till 11 o’clock at night. Our dogs are terrified of them and now have to be put on medication until this insane nonsense is over. More pets are lost on the Fourth of July than at any other time of the year.

The noise has interrupted our nightly sleep and littered the neighborhood. The users of these items don’t seem inclined to clean up after themselves. We don’t think we are the only ones with this problem nor the only ones who wish the city would reverse this decision.
