I couldn’t agree more with the sentiments expressed about illegal aliens in a letter you published on July 16. I would simply add there’s more at stake here than hugs.
The 14th Amendment provides that the 435 seats in the House be apportioned on the basis of “the whole number of persons” counted in the decennial census. It may shock your readers to know that Democrats contend “persons” include illegals.
Estimates of illegals in this country range as high as 30 million. Consider the distortion on our electoral process if illegals are counted for House seats (and the Electoral College). California and other sanctuary jurisdiction will take over the country. That’s why they are sanctuary jurisdictions. It’s a long-term political play for power, that’s all, not the act of goodness and charity the Dems claim.
If all this seems preposterous to you, consider this largely ignored statement by Attorney General William Barr at President Trump’s July 11 press conference about his executive order on the citizenship question: “There is a current dispute over whether illegal aliens can be included for apportionment purposes.” Guess where The Squad — Rashida Talib, Ayanna Pressley, Ilhan Omar and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez — stands in that dispute?
