Dear Editor:

As a fan of The Daily Times' Opinion page, where pro-life opinions often are expressed, I find myself wondering how those same activists feel with regard to the right to life and protection from trauma and injury of children and adults victimized by both domestic violence and especially the rise in mass shootings in our schools, churches and other public places?

I am hopeful that pro-life advocates are equally earnest and vocal about the needs to improve background checks for prospective gun owners and to change laws that currently fail to prevent mentally/emotionally unstable people from having guns in the first place.

Finally, I am baffled by the inconsistencies and blind spots in a culture that clearly prioritizes access to guns ahead of the safety of its schoolchildren and citizens in any setting. This seems to me as short-sighted as proposing the criminalization of abortion.

Thank you Shirley Brown. Very well said. We should stop using the label pro-life because they certainly are not.
