Dear Editor:

There is little opposition to the contention that our infrastructure is a national emergency. It has reached this condition due to lack of attention. Both Republicans and Democrats share the blame.

Republicans generally shy from problems that may require tax increases. Democrats are not opposed to tax increases as long as they are for some of their social programs that may be popular with the voters.

Now, the Democrat majority in the House of Representatives might be interested, but as this was one of Trump’s campaign issues, they are reluctant to do something Trump might get credit for. Reminds me of a comment Harry Truman made on this subject.
