A massive second-half performance carried the Maryville College women's basketball team to a 75-67 road victory over No. 10-ranked Transylvania on Friday night.
The Scots (5-1) trailed by 10 points at halftime but rallied in the third quarter and rallied even more in the fourth quarter to score the upset.
Klaire Varney led Maryville with 32 points, nine rebounds, eight steals and six assists. She scored 15 points in the third quarter as Maryville trimmed its deficit to five points.
Elsa Eckenrod scored 12 of her 15 points in the fourth quarter to carry the Scots to the finish line. Shelby Hix chipped in 10 points.
In proving they are more than a one-woman show, the Scots scored the victory despite the fact Courtney Carruthers — the nation's highest scoring freshman — was limited to three points.
