Neal Leatherwood has resigned his position as boys basketball coach at Heritage, the school’s athletic director Robbie Bennett told The Daily Times Thursday.

Leatherwood was on the coaching staff for six years. He was an assistant for four years and then in December 2016 took over as head coach on an interim basis when Bill Duncan retired. Leatherwood was named the head coach for the 2017-18 season.

Bennett said Leatherwood resigned for personal reasons.

“We appreciate his service to Heritage High School,” Bennett said. “We wish him the best of luck.”

Bennett said the school will form its plan to find Leatherwood’s successor in the coming days.
