Maryville High School graduate Courtney Carruthers scored 21 points off the bench in her collegiate debut to lead the Maryville College women's basketball team to a 74-48 victory over Sewanee at the Agnes Scott Classic in Decatur, Ga.

Carruthers shot 8 of 17 from the floor, made two 3-pointers and grabbed five rebounds in helping the Lady Scots jump to a 17-point lead after one quarter.

Junior Klaire Varney matched Carruthers' 21 points and added six rebounds, three steals and two assists.

Carruthers wasn't the only Blount County graduate to contribute in her college debut. William Blount's Abbi Joseph was in the starting lineup, scored 11 points and got five rebounds.

Junior Elsa Eckenrod added eight points, eight rebounds and four assists.

Maryville plays again on Saturday against Bob Jones.
