UPDATE: The Smokies avoided the sweep by beating the Generals 8-2 on Thursday night. They scored three runs in the top of the sixth inning on Nico Hoerner’s RBI single, Vimael Machin’s RBI double and Jared Young’s RBI triple. Tennessee broke open the game with five runs in the ninth. Cubs infielder Ben Zobrist hit leadoff and played second base for the Smokies. He went 1-for-2 with three walks, one strikeout and two runs scored. He is expected to finish his rehab assignment this weekend with AAA Iowa. The Smokies begin a five-game series tonight at home against the Birmingham Barons. It is their last home series of the season.
